The Truth About Water 1st and 2nd December 2009
With the Water Framework Directive threatening to inflict stricter regulation on our use of pesticides and fertilisers, we recently held a series of meetings to meet up with three large water treatment facilities. These were at East Surrey and Sutton Waters Bough Beech reservoir at Sevenoaks, Portsmouth Water's River Itchen works at Southampton and Wessex Water's Clarendon works at Salisbury. The events were well attended and we all learned a terrific amount, concerning the challenges faced by the water companies. It was fascinating to see that each water company is very supportive of agriculture in general and they are probably having more of a problem with the EU legislation than we are at the moment.
